Snooper Satellite Navigation (available free with some mobile contracts)

Snooper is a relatively unknown brand of sat nav but they have a surprisingly large range of GPS systems. They produce sat navs for cars, trucks and caravans.

The cheapest of Snoopers sat nav range is the Snooper Sapphire GPS Detector System.  This system is especially for detecting safety and speed cameras. Firstly this is important for avoiding accidents at notorious danger spots and secondly for avoiding hefty fines. The Snooper Sapphire is not a normal sat nav, it is just a speed camera detection device and at £99.99 some might question whether or not it is worth it to buy it when you can get speed camera detection in a normal sat nav. The Snooper Sapphire is also a good looking machine, its sleek black finish and rounded edges make it look like an mp3 player rather than a sat nav. In size it is around the same size as a mobile phone. It weighs 200g which makes it easy to carry around.

Snoopers range of sat navs for trucks is quite original. The Snooper AVN S7000 Truckmate has specially designed software to help drivers of trucks to navigate away from narrow roads from which their trucks may not fit. It also helps to spot and navigate away from low bridges and weight restrictions.  The Snooper AVN S7000 is RRP at £599.99 which is quite expensive for a sat nav but seeing as this is a special sat nav for trucks the price is excusable. The list of features on the Snooper AVN S7000 is endless but some of the most useful are: the Bluetooth hands free option. Truckers often drive for long periods of time and need to concentrate on the road with both hands on the steering wheel. With the Bluetooth hands free option connections can be made without having to constantly touch the touch screen. The Snooper AVN S7000 has a 7” diameter screen which is really quite big for a sat nav, this is great for ease of use as the display is bigger the picture will be clearer. The Snooper AVN S7000 also has a built in ‘re-calculation’ tool which means that the route will be recalculated if you deviate from the route you have already set to follow. The colour and brightness control also helps to make the screen clear for good viewing.

The Snooper AVN S7000 Ventura is similar to the Snooper AVN S7000 Truckmate but is for caravans instead of trucks. It can navigate around routes which include low hanging bridges and narrow roads. It also includes a database of all the ACSI campsites in the country which is useful for holiday planning whilst on the move. Apart from that it is very similar to all the other sat navs in the range and a similar price at £599.99. The Snooper AVN S7000 also has a position DVD memory which means that if you turn it off and when you turn it back on it’ll remember the last screen that you viewed.

Another unique product by Snooper sat nav is their GPS Shotsaver Range Finder. This is for use on a golf course and provides you with distances between areas on the golf course such as bunkers and fairways. Its RRP is £269.99 which is very expensive for something you can get a lot cheaper, but some golfers demand the best, and this probably is the best (and one of the most expensive) range finders on the market.
