Navigo Sat Navs (available free with mobile phones)
Navigo are a relatively new competitor on the sat nav market. Many people get confused when researching Navigo as it is able to run Tom Tom programmes as well as its own. The machine itself is solely Navigo but the option is there to run the Tom Tom technology on the Navigo.
Navigo sat navs are widely considered good value for money and are at the lower end of the price spectrum for sat navs. The basic Navigo GPS sat nav for example is available from £63 on amazon.co.uk. It comes with all the features of regular sat navs, postcode search, safety camera warning, mp3 and mp4 playback. Navigo sat navs don’t have many sparkly features but do what they are supposed to do well.
On the basis of customer reviews, it seems that the customer satisfaction with Navigo sat navs averages out as acceptable. Some love Navigo and state that its the best sat nav they have ever used. Others have posted very scathing reviews on website stating that they would never buy a Navigo again. There have been some reports of faults in the map update system with customers saying that the CD provided with the Navigo is broken and doesn’t link to the Navigo site but instead to the manufacturers... which is all in Chinese. Not very useful! However for every person that found problems there is a person who didn’t and some consumers have reported that faults with the CD can be fixed by contacting Navigo and asking for a replacement CD. Other reviewers have pointed out that the programme that comes with the Navigo (Turbodog) is very weak but this problem can be overcome by installing Tom Tom technology onto the Navigo.
The Navigo 3.5” Version 3 is a more up to date sat nav from Navigo. The graphics are clearer cut with full 3D visuals. The Navigo 3.5” has all the usual mp3/mp4 features but consumers feel that this is the products best points. It gets you to where you want to go well but is also a portable media centre. Some consumers have reported that the sound quality on the Navigo 3.5” is excellent and the volume means that it can easily be heard over standard street noise and extra disturbance such as drilling and building work. The Navigo 3.5” can also store pictures which makes it like a mini photo album. A great idea if your travelling lightly and want to view your picture and listen to your music on the move, with the Navigo 3.5” there is no need for bringing along a separate mp3 player and cumbersome photo album, it all fits on the Navigo 3.5”. The size of the Navigo 3.5” is also a good point, being 3.5” in screen diameter it is a tiny machine and can fit easily into a pocket. In regards to the weight of the Navigo 3.5”, it weighs 500 grams which is about average weight for a sat nav.
Another good feature of the Navigo 3.5” is its postcode accuracy. It has a 7 digit postcode search which accomodates all postcodes no matter how vague or detailed they are. The ‘instant route re-calculation’ enables the Navigo 3.5” to recalculate the route if you take a wrong turn or just decide to ignore the Navigo’s instructions. Unlike some sat navs (which will just bark ‘turn back... turn back... turn back...’ until you do) it just recalculates the route to suit the way you’ve turned. And it won’t argue back! The Navigo 3.5” is also portable which means that it will work if it isn’t connected to its reader. So if you want to check out traffic news whilst getting a coffee in a service station then you can and the Navigo 3.5” won’t loose connection.
