MyGuide Satellite Navigation (available free on selected Mobile Phone Deals)

My Guide isn’t a really well known brand of GPS navigation system but do the job well for their low prices. The cheapest My Guide sat nav is RRP at £59.99.

The most popular My Guide sat nav is the My Guide 3100 sat nav GPS Unit. Aestetically, it is small, slim and relatively lightweight (for a sat nav) at just over 900 grams. The My Guide 3100 has a touch screen for ease of use and its postcode search allows for 7 digits to be inputted. Compared to other sat navs on the market this is the minimum number of postcode digits, which is fine if your only using postcodes with 7 digits but if you want to use more then it could be a slight problem.

The My Guide 3100 is a basic machine, it doesn’t do any of the fancy features that others do such as ‘places of interest’ and Bluetooth control. It is also wise to note that it doesn’t have a safety camera spotter feature although this can be added on for a small extra cost. However the My Guide 3100 is very good at ‘re-routing’. This means that it will recalculate your route if you deviate from the My Guide’s instructions. The overall opinion on the My Guide 3100 is that it is a good machine for the low price. It is basic but works well for a low price machine.

A more complex sat nav from My Guide is the My Guide 4228. It has all the features of the My Guide 3100 and more.  For example the My Guide 4228 has  a ‘lane assist’ function which helps the driver choose which lane to enter on a multiple lane highway. The My Guide 4338 also has a built in mp3 player just like all new sat navs on the market today. The catch with the built in mp3 player is that it cannot be used when the sat nav is in navigation mode. So you can only use it as an mp3 player when the navigation mode is off, for example maybe when your stuck in traffic or staying overnight and having a break from the road. The My Guide 4228 is RRP at £69.99, still a low price for a sat nav.

Another My Guide is the My Guide 3000. It comes complete with a stylus, a car mounting system and car charger and obviously all the instruction manuals and CD’s. The My Guide 3000 is unique in that it is hand held and therefore can be not only used in a car but on a bike and just when walking. The My Guide 3000 weighs only 190g which is very very light. It is slim line and therefore can fit into a pocket easily. As well as the mp3 function first shown in the My Guide 4228, the My Guide 3000 also has a built in picture viewer but this cannot be used when the sat nav is in navigation mode. The battery life is a maximum of 4 hours after a full charge. The battery itself is a rechargeable lithium ion. Mapping if course is important to every sat nav and the My Guide has all the latest UK maps  and can be updated via the internet. With the My Guide 3000 being a touch screen this means that only one touch will calculate a route. You can find your destination by entering a full address or just a postcode. The My Guide 3000, just like its predecessors has a 7 digit postcode finder which may not be as many digits as some of the sat navs on the market but it definatley is adequate.
