LG KM900 Arena With Built In Sat Nav
It’s difficult to review the LG KM900 with built-in sat nav: The phone boasts an impressive range of features. In fact, it has more features than just about any other smart phone on the market. But despite all these nifty features – which include a great built-in satellite navigation system and video editing and shooting that is truly a step beyond most competitors – using the LG KM900 isn’t a truly satisfying experience.
The reason? This phone, despite all its impressive features, isn’t fun to use. It’s slow, for one thing. You press a button and you wait. That’s the definition of sluggish. It’s a bit on the heavy and unwieldy side.
Still, if you are in the market for a mobile phone with built-in satellite navigation that also comes with more features than you’ll ever need, you might consider the LG KM900. The phone might be an especially good buy if you can find it at a discount price. That might not be too hard today, as LG has since introduced newer mobile models that are easier to use and more stylish to tote around town.
It’s best to get the negatives out of the way first. The KM900 is slow. This is especially noticeable when you’re typing text messages. The phone’s keyboard just doesn’t react as quickly as it should. If you’re a fast typist, you might find yourself constantly having to make corrections simply because the keyboard keys don’t respond quickly enough to your touch.
The secret to typing effectively on the KM900 is to do it more slowly. That’s the only way all of the letters you touch are going to show up on the screen. Of course, that’s extremely frustrating for users. No one wants to be forced to slow down when texting their friends or writing a work-related e-mail message.
The same problem occasionally pops up when using the phone’s music player. You’ll tap the “pause” button, say, and find that nothing happens for a second or two. If you press another button while this lag is taking place, it won’t register.
Again, this is frustrating for a generation of iPod users who are used to instant response whenever they click on a button. In the future, LG will have to do a better job with their units’ responsiveness.
Outside of this, though, the KM900 is a rather impressive phone. Its built-in sat nav is especially powerful, as it will quickly locate your position, no matter where you happen to be standing. If you need to get to a restaurant by 7 p.m., the built-in satellite navigation will find the most efficient route. It will also help you find a good place to get ice cream afterwards.
The KM900 also comes with a powerful 5-megapixel camera that takes clear and vibrant shots. In fact, LG has long featured top-notch cameras in its smart phones. The KM900 is no exception. The only problem? The camera, like much of the rest of this phone, can be a bit unresponsive, too. The biggest annoyance occurs when you press the shutter: There is sometimes a brief delay from when you hear the shutter click and the photo is taken. This can lead to some missed photo opportunities.
If music is your thing, you’ll be impressed with the KM900’s built-in FM radio transmitter. This allows you to wirelessly connect your mobile to your car radio to play the music files on the mobile. You can do the same with your home stereo.
The KM900 is also a smart choice for people who spend a lot of time surfing the Web or downloading music videos, movies or large files. The KM900’s mobile Web browsing is top of the line, without any of the sluggishness that plagues many of this phone’s other applications. Receiving e-mail messages – though not always writing them – is also a snap with this mobile.
